Got a big number coming up? Need something extra-special for that loved one? What you need are some good ideas for your party-hearty plans. Whether it is for the young or the old, you can always find great party ideas.
First of all, before you begin your birthday party plans you should ask yourself: For whom am I planning this party? That is, who is your guest of honor? Is it a child's birthday? Is it a business colleague's party? Who are the invited guests? All of these questions must be asked and answered before one begins planning for a party.

You are planning this party for a person, so ask yourself: What does this person like? What are their hobbies/interests? With this information, you can base your plans on the favorite ideas/interests of your subject. You may also need to ask: What does this person NOT like? This is very important as well, because this will allow you to AVOID including things that your subject strongly dislikes. Such things include certain foods, drinks, even objects and people!
For example, I had once planned a party for my friend Muhammed. Being a devote Muslim, he did not drink alcohol in any form. So we arranged our party to exclude alcohol, as well as certain foods. Food can become an an embarrassing, and sometimes dangerous issue. I once attended a party where one of the guests was allergic to peanuts.
Even though peanuts were not initially served at the party, some of the guests decided to take it upon themselves to make extra snacks. Someone opened up a jar of peanut butter from the cupboard. Traces of peanut butter had found their way into my friend's food. She fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The moral of these stories are that before you pick a party theme, know who your guests are. That way, a fun party will not be turned into a spoiled evening.
Themes
Pirate Theme: There are many films these days that are based on pirate themes, why not a party based on pirates? This can be a fun theme for movie fans or people who frequent a yacht club. Everyone can dress as a pirate, even famous pirates, such as Blackbeard, Bluebeard, or Anne Bonny. You can decorate the quarter, party space, as a crew ship or as a Caribbean sea theme, including boats, sharks, fishnet, etc. This can be an interesting poolside, boat, or beach birthday party.
Movie Theme: Here is a great party idea for movie lovers. Have a party based on Hollywood films. have all of your guests dress up as famous actors or characters from famous films, Chaplin anyone? You can also dress your party setting up as a studio stage, including lights, cameras, and action!
Decade Theme: Stage a party on your favorite decade. Whether it be the 20's, 30's, 70's or 80's, you can arrange your party space to fit the style of the desired times. Be sure to include furniture, food, music, and dress in your plans.
Century Theme: From 17th century frills-and-lace to ancient Egypt, you can base a theme on any time and place in the world. Roman toga parties are always popular and fun, or maybe a country square dance theme, complete with a fiddler.
Holiday Theme: How about a party to go with your already decorated house? Christmas parties are always popular at Christmas time, of course. How about a haunted house on Halloween? You can always go green on St. Patrick's Day, or red, white and blue on the Fourth of July. Holiday's are great times and themes to plan a birthday party around!
